Houston — We're gonna need a beam!

The good news is, that the effect of knocking down the wall behind the stairs is going to be breathtaking - you could say, it taking down this wall is going to MAKE this first floor space great.

The above picture is a view from the edge of the living room right before the stairs. The coat closet, powder room and cleaning closet are on your right.

Rounding the corner you will be able to see into the new kitchen. On the left wall imagine a subzero fridge, and open shelving on stainless steel surrounding the Bertazzoni stove and oven, with a pantry beyond. The 14 ft. island covered in soapstone in the middle with open shelving on reclaimed wood on your right. Where the two windows are will be the 10 ft addition with the dining room, with a deck and garden beyond.

However, when we looked at the hundreds of years of alterations and original construction, we felt that we were going to need to help this house with a little much needed support, so Chris is going to put in a hidden beam East to West and North to South - here at the intersection of the center of the house. The move isn't required, but we felt it would help keep settling to a minimum in the future, as well as provide additional support to my beloved winding staircase.

A little bump in the road, but one worthy of time and money.
