When I first walked into the house, I had a strong feeling that the living room wanted to be navy blue with white wainscoting.

It's as if the tall ceilings were begging for something to break up the expanse of wall and to make the room, well — less boring.

The wainscoting has been on our working list all along, with and without bead board on the back. This is one of the last projects to bring the living room to completion.

It's all about the math

After we got the top and bottom boards level and glued and nailed within an inch of their life, Chris did the calculations - he was off by 1/4" on his first try.

Breaking up the blue

With the top and bottom boards squared up on the navy blue wall. Raul painstakingly cut all the decorative molding for inside the wainscoting and on the top.

Shims required!

Despite having done a lot of mud on this wall - it was still wavy and shims were required to keep the depth of the boards the same.

All done!

The finished product, a beautiful wainscoting down the long wall behind the couch - makes the brick pop.

A proper reading nook

Here is a shot of the wainscoting behind my favorite reading chair.

We're pretty much done in the living room until we get the addition done. Once that is complete and closed to the outside world, then we can replace the floors.

Fingers crossed, we will get all our DOB approvals and can be on our way — before fall creeps into winter.
