A Renovation Story RSS

So my friend Leigh Anne Tsuji and her son Grant are coming to New York for a visit over Memorial Day Weekend, so while the rest of the house is still a big mess, the rooms for them will be ready. 

First stop at the top of the stairs is the new 3rd floor bathroom which I am quite proud of. I think it turned out really nice. It is calming and relaxing and I'm not just saying that because it is the only bathroom in the house. We still have a few finishing touches, we need to add a mirror and top the vanity with a piece of marble, but this works for now.

Sliding Barn Door

As you come to the top of the stairs you are greeted by a sliding barn door. I used "picking stain" on this one to give it a little character.

A peak inside

When you look inside the door you can see the bathroom welcoming you.

Functional First

A nice pedestal sink sets the tone for the time period and mini random brick carerra tile builds on the 12x12 squares in the floor - grey marble pencils accent the walls. 

The shower

A closer look at the shower reveals both a handheld, tub spout and a rain head shower head - and the low sides make bathing kids easy.

The vanity

The vanity is custom millwork and provides lots of storage for bath stuff and linens for the two adjacent bedrooms.

Towel storage

is built into the vanity.

Fun new locks

When a bathroom door is a barn door, the locks look a little different.

Red Velvet Cupcake Room

So I call this the Red Velvet Cupcake Room. It has low sloping ceilings and it feels very womblike with the brick on one wall.

Stretch out

and stay awhile.

Guest Room 2

Doubles as my office. I have my surfboard that Lee Clow gave me when I left the agency and room for a desk and all my books. A picture of Jay and Lee, who enabled me to live my life's purpose, hangs as inspiration.

Practical

I used white filing cabinets as nightstands - very practical. 

There is also Laundry

We have also hidden the laundry in this room - behind the new louvered doors.

They are my first real houseguests (other than the test drive that Bill Currier did last month), so I hope that they will be very comfortable. Here's hoping that it doesn't get too hot, as the air conditioning might not be totally up yet.
